Congress leader and former minister G Chinna Reddy today slammed the TRS-led state government over the
brutal murder of the advocate couple, Gattu Vaman Rao and P V Nagamani, and demanded that the government order a CBI inquiry into the incident at the earliest.
Speaking to the media, Reddy said that the murder of the couple was an incident that encapsulated, perfectly, the deterioration in the state's law and order situation.
"The murder of the two lawyers shows how the law and order situation in Telangana has degenerated. Many such murders have taken place since the TRS came into power in the state," he alleged.
Referring to the statement of one of the victims, Vaman Rao, who said that a TRS leader was behind the attack, the former minister flayed the state government for not having arrested the accused so far.
Another Congress leader, T Jeevan Reddy, also lambasted the government over the incident, and said, "The murder of advocates Vaman Rao and P V Nagamani resembles the politically-motivated murder of Vijaywada-based politician Vangaveeti Ranga, who was assassinated about thirty years ago. Such an incident is a shame. It is a clear sign of the rise in goonda raj under the TRS' regime, and of the collusion between the local police and the party's local-level public representatives. It is time for the ruling party to clean up its act, and to deal with the rise of anti-social elements within the party."
"It is strange that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has still not even spoken about the attack. He should remember that the state government is responsible for the people of Telangana. His silence makes me wonder whether the attack was orchestrated by TRS activists as a birthday present for their leader. Perhaps this unfortunate murder will bring about the end of the party's misrule in the state," he added.
TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy had also targeted the state government for its alleged
role in the murder, earlier in the day.
