Congress Seeks KCR Resignation After HC Verdict

Several Telangana Congress leaders sought KCR's resignation after the High Court quashed the Assembly's decision to expel Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Sampath Kumar.
Hyderabad | 17th April 2018
Several Telangana Congress leaders today went hammer and tongs at CM KCR seeking his resignation after the Hyderabad High Court quashed the Telangana Assembly's decision to expel Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar.

Reddy himself was the most vocal, asserting that even 10 KCRs could not do anything to him. Speaking to the media after the verdict, he said that justice had won and demanded that KCR resign forthwith. He said that KCR had caused him mental torture in the last one month, but that the courts had protected him (Reddy).

He also said that he had great respect for Council Chairman K Swamy Goud.

Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir demanded that both CM KCR and Speaker Madhusudhana Chary resign if they had any respect for political values after the verdict.

Describing the court verdict as a slap in the face of the TRS government, Shabbir Ali said that both KCR and the Speaker had put their personal vendetta above democratic norms and the business rules of the House. The court had exposed the "true colours" of the Speaker for not upholding the Constitution and instead yielding to government pressure, he said.

He said that the court decision was a shot in the arm for the Congress. "Now both Congress MLAs can continue their crusade against the TRS and the despotic rule of KCR," he said.

Congress senior leader V Hanumantha Rao too called the verdict a slap in the face of the TRS government. And former minister D K Aruna too welcomed the verdict and demanded that KCR step down if he had any respect for moral values. "KCR has no moral right to continue as Chief Minister," she said, and pointed out that the KCR government had suffered several judicial blows in the last four years.
