Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of duping the Muslims and Scheduled Tribes (STs) of the state on the quota in jobs and education front.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Reddy said that the increase in quota to 12% for Muslims and 10% for STs did not even figure in the list of issues raised by the Chief Minister in his meeting yesterday with Prime Minister Narender Modi.
He said that that exposed that the Chief Minister had blatantly lied on the floor of the Telangana Legislative Assembly by claiming that PM Modi had agreed to enhance the Muslim quota.
"What happened to KCR's promise of bringing the proposed Muslim and ST reservations under the 9th Schedule? Where are the tremors which KCR promised to create if the Centre disapproved a higher quota for Muslims? Why is he not staging a dharna or protest before Jantar Mantar? Why KCR is afraid of raising the issue of 12% Muslim reservation before PM Modi?" asked the TPCC chief.
He claimed that the Muslims and STs would teach the TRS a fitting lesson in next elections for the way KCR cheated them repeatedly.
Reddy said that KCR was a staunch supporter of Modi. He was the first Chief Minister to support Modi on the issue of demonetisation and GST, and had also politically strengthened the BJP by supporting its candidates for the posts of President and Vice President of India. The TRS had been a secret ally of the BJP right from the beginning, and just to cover up their failures the two parties were acting like rivals to divert the people’s attention, he alleged.
The TPCC chief also slammed the Chief Minister for not questioning the Central government for its failure to set up a steel plant in Bayyaram, a tribal university and a railway coach factory at Kazipet, and deliver on the other assurances made in the AP Reorganization Act.
TPCC Vice-President Mallu Ravi, MLAs S A Sampath Kumar and Vamshichand Reddy, and other leaders were also present.
