With the Congress MLAs stalling the proceedings of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, Speaker Madhusudhan Chary suspended 14 legislators from the House for a day.
As soon as the House met on Tuesday, the Congress MLAs moved an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the defection of the Opposition MLAs to the TRS. They did not allow the Speaker to take up the Question Hour. They rushed to the podium and shouted slogans against the government.
The Speaker adjourned the House for a brief period twice. However, normalcy did not return even when the House met for the third time.
While the Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy accused the TRS Government of breaking all democratic norms by encouraging defections in the Opposition Parties, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao denied the allegations and said that it was the Congress party which promoted the culture of defections in the country.
With the Congress MLAs not showing any signs of allowing normalcy, Harish Rao moved a motion for the suspension of the Congress MLAs. The Speaker then passed it through a voice vote.
Those suspended include T Jeevan Reddy, Dr J Geetha Reddy, D K Aruna, Komatireddy Venkatreddy, Ajay Kumar, Krishna Reddy, Padmavathi, Ramreddy Venkat Reddy and V A Sampath.
A few legislators were physically lifted out by the marshals from the House. (INN)
