The Congress and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen combine has maintained its control for the 5th consecutive term over the Standing Committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
8 corporators of the Congress party and 7 of the MIM were elected as the members of the Standing Committee, for which elections were held on Friday.
The new elected members of the Standing Committee are Sigireddy Dhanpal Reddy, A Mahesh Yadav, A Krishna, C Sunitha, Mohammed Wajid Hussain, J Satyanarayana, Mohsin Bin Abdullah Balala, D Anil Singh, J Devanand, Md Farooquddin, Mir Wajid Ali Khan, M A Gaffar, V Bhanumati, Abdul Qavi Ansari and Dr Mohd Yousuf Naqshbandi.
Of 148 corporators, 8 including former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy abstained from voting due to different reasons. 2 seats fell vacant due to the election of the corporators - D Raja Singh and Jaffer Hussain Meraj - as members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
With a combined strength of 93 corporators, the Congress-MIM combine ensured that it continued its dominance over the Standing Committee. (INN)
