The Telangana unit of the Congress today lodged a complaint against TRS leader and Tandur MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy, alleging that the latter had submitted a false affidavit that contained "wrong information" about his educational qualifications.
Senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy lodged the complaint against the MLA with the Election Commission of India (EC). He submitted the complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state, Shashank Goel, and urged him to conduct an inquiry into the complaints and to take the necessary action against the MLA.
In his complaint, Shashidhar Reddy reportedly told the CEO that Rohith Reddy had furnished false information to the EC by stating that he had obtained a graduate degree from Sweden when the MLA had claimed, on his website, that he had done a Masters from the US. He also alleged that it had become a habit of the MLA to commit fraud and cheat people.
After lodging the complaint, he said that the CEO had responded favourably to conducting an inquiry, and had said that the Vikarabad district Collector would be made the inquiry officer.
Shashidhar Reddy then demanded that the Telangana DGP, M Mahender Reddy, also initiate an inquiry into the issue to ascertain whether the MLA had played a role in the fake certificate scam, which came to light last year. He also demanded that the MLA be disqualified from his post.
He added that the Congress would soon meet Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to apprise her of the matter, and to lodge a complaint with her as well.
Recently, the town of Tandur has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Just last month, the EC had ordered the Vikarabad district Collector to
register a criminal case against the town's Municipal Chairman, Tatikonda Swapna, for allegedly casting a fake vote in the recently-concluded MLC elections in the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahbubnagar constituency.
