Lok Satta Party (LSP) President Jayaprakash Narayan on Friday stated that the people's welfare and their problems were being neglected in the House as both the ruling and the opposition parties had resorted to levelling charges and counter charges on corruption allegations.
Talking to media persons at the Assembly media point, the LSP chief demanded that the government make efforts towards addressing the problems of the people in the House.
Finding fault with both the government and the opposition for the turmoil in the Assembly, which has seen virtually no business due to the demand for a Joint Legislature Committee (JLC) probe into the allotment of land to the business associates of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, he blamed the government for insisting on a discussion and its adamant refusal for a probe on such a major issue. He asked on what basis the government had called for a discussion on land allotments.
Dr. Narayan demanded that the government order a JLC probe into entire land allotments in Special Economic Zones as there seem to be irregularities in the land allocations. "The government should be held responsible as the lands were acquired from the farmers and the poor in the name of industrialization," he stated.
The former IAS officer alleged there was rampant corruption and that nepotism was playing a key role in politics.
"I am responsible to the people and not to the government," he said in response to a question asked.
Responding to questions on his views on the 8th chapter of the Srikrishna Committee Report, Dr. Narayan said, "I will react after going through the copy of the High Court directions and the 8th chapter."
