Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today slammed Centre for remaining silent on conducting a caste census that would help prepare plans for the development of the marginalized people.
He also announced that about 80,000 posts in the government would be filled up in two to three months.
"We have offered 1.30 lakh jobs in the government and private sectors, with reservations for various backward categories, and will offer many more," he told the Assembly during a debate on jobs, caste and schemes.
The Chief Minister said that he had repeatedly appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that a caste census was conducted, as it would help the SC category which was about 17.5% of the state's population, and would enable them to get more reservation.
"I appealed for it several times, but the Centre is not ready for it. What is wrong if a caste census is done? It will help plan funding for the weaker sections. The SC, ST, minority and BC populations vary from state to state, and each state needs to plan according to its population profile. We will send an appeal through the Assembly session this time to the Centre to do a caste census, and need to pass a unanimous resolution in this regard," he said.
