BRS working president K T Rama Rao today demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy take full responsibility for the collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Nagarkurnool district.
This event closely follows the Sunkishala retaining wall collapse (August 2), intensifying scrutiny of the State's infrastructure projects.
Criticising the Congress-led State government for them, KTR claimed that these incidents resulted from collusion between officials and contractors, leading to compromised quality standards.
"Such a series of incidents is happening due to the collusion with contractors, the evasion of supervision in the hunt for commissions, and the complete compromise on quality standards," he said.
He demanded immediate and transparent investigations into both the SLBC tunnel collapse and the Sunkishala incident, and also urged the government to ensure adherence to construction regulations to prevent future tragedies.
KTR also called for a judicial inquiry into the Sunkishala retaining wall collapse, holding Reddy accountable for it. He questioned the government's decision to withhold information about the collapse during a legislative session, and criticized the lack of a formal statement from the Chief Minister in the Assembly.
For the unversed, at least eight people are feared trapped after a portion of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel near Domalapenta collapsed this morning. The CM had expressed deep shock over the accident, and directed officials, including the district Collector, the Superintendent of Police, and the head of the fire services department, to undertake immediate relief measures. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Advisor Adityanath Das were dispatched to the accident site via a special helicopter to oversee the rescue operations.
