Sirish Bharadwaj Finally Surrenders

Chiranjeevi's younger son-in-law, Sirish Bharadwaj, surrendered himself before the Nampally Criminal Courts on Wednesday.
Hyderabad | 27th July 2011
After months of being underground, Sirish Bharadwaj, the younger son-in-law of actor-turned-politician and Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi, surrendered himself before the Nampally Criminal Courts on Wednesday.

After his surrender, Sirish was remanded to 14 days of police custody. He has been shifted to Chanchalguda Jail.

Earlier, the City Crime Station police filed a petition in the court, seeking his custody for 5 days.

Sirish had gone missing ever since his anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the VIII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, Nampally, on March 24, after his estranged wife Srija had lodged a complaint of dowry harassment against him and his mother.

The court, after hearing the anticipatory bail petitions file by Sirish and his mother Suryamangala, had rejected the former's bail petition.

However, Suryamangala, the co-accused in the harassment case, was granted anticipatory bail, albeit with certain conditions.

Advocate C V L Narasimha Rao had filed the bail petition on behalf of Sirish and his mother.

Sirish and Suryamangala, were accused of harassment (Crime Number 82/2011 of CCS Women PS), in a case filed by Chiranjeevi's daughter Srija.

Srija had alleged that Sirish Bharadwaj and his mother had been exploiting and ill-treating her for some time.

She also claimed in her complaint that her in-laws had demanded Rs. 50 lakh as dowry from her.

Earlier, the two had eloped and married in October 2007. Chiranjeevi was against the match, as he belongs to the Kapu caste while Bharadwaj is a Brahmin.

Interestingly, Sirish surrendered before the court even as reports suggest that Srija has left for Dubai to pursue her higher studies. (INN)
