6 Seemandhra Union Ministers Quit

6 union ministers belonging to the Seemandhra region resigned from their posts, protesting the Union Cabinet's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

While Kavuri Sambasiva Rao (Textiles), M M Pallam Raju (HRD), K Chiranjeevi (Tourism), and Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy (Railways) resigned on Thursday night, 2 more ministers - D Purandeswari and K Krupa Rani - announced their resignation from the Union Cabinet on Friday.

Reportedly, Chiranjeevi faxed his resignation to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Pallam Raju called the PM immediately after the Cabinet meeting to announce his decision to quit. Manmohan Singh advised the ministers not to take a hasty decision. He reportedly even called up Chiranjeevi on Friday, asking him to review his decision. (INN)
