Charminar Will Be Developed As Swachch Iconic Place
Hyderabad's iconic Charminar has been selected under the Central government's Swachch Bharat Mission (SBM) - Phase II for development as a Swachch Iconic Place.
Hyderabad's iconic Charminar has been selected under the Central government's Swachch Bharat Mission (SBM) - Phase II for development as a Swachch Iconic Place.
Swachch Iconic Places is an initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission. It is a special clean-up initiative that will select 100 "iconic" heritage, spiritual and cultural places in the country over time that will be the focus of special clean-up drives. The initiative is being coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in association with the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and the concerned state governments.
Phase I of SBM saw the selection of 10 heritage structures in July 2016, including the Vaishno Devi temple, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Taj Mahal, Tirupati's Tirumala temple, Golden Temple, Manikarnika Ghat, Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Meenakshi Temple In Madhura, Kamakhya Temple in Assam and Jagannath Temple in Puri.
Phase II, announced today, has another 10 places, with a structure from Telangana making it to the list for the first time.
Each iconic place selected under SBM will be supported by a Public Sector Unit, that will help with its financing, technical and managerial requirements.
