On the first day of a 3-day visit to Singapore, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his team visited the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park and Centre For Liveable Cities to study Singapore's best urban practices.
The Chief Minister met Second Minister (Trade & Industry) S Iswaran, and discussed the opportunities in Andhra Pradesh.
The AP CM was also given a tour of the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park, which is one of the highlights of Singapore.
At the Centre For Liveable Cities (CLC), the executive director of the CLC, Khoo Teng Chye, explained to the Chief Minister the best urban-planning practices of the city-state.
Singapore had taken some of the best measures to conserve and manage drinking water, Naidu was told.
The Chief Minister reviewed and studied the country's integrated efforts to minimize solid waste through recycling, purchase of recycled products and provision of waste audits. He also met experts from the national water agency, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) of Singapore, which is the sole body responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in the city.
Singapore was known for its innovation in the field of drainage for water management, Naidu was also told. The practices include the use of precast box culverts to cut drains on busy roads overnight in order to minimize construction time and traffic disruption, computer modeling to optimize canal design, and incorporation of special engineering and landscaping features to retain a river's natural features.
The Chief Minister also took a Singapore River Cruise from Clarke Quay into Marina Bay to study Singapore's river clean-up and understand the development of the Singapore River Tourism District. This is aimed to help Andhra Pradesh in developing its capital on the river front and also give a fillip to beach tourism in the State.
A delegation comprising finance minister Y Ramakrishnudu, municipal administration minister P Narayana, Advisor (Communications) Dr. Parakala Prabhakar, and senior officials from the planning, infrastructure and investments departments is part of the visiting team. (INN)
