Kids, we tell you. They're great at giving you a complex. Especially when they're all of 10 years old and set state-level records.
Amita Gondi is a 10-year old champion swimmer studying in the 6th grade at Oakridge International School, and has several enviable achievements to her credit.
Amita Gondi bagged 6 gold medals in all the 6 individual events that she participated in during the recently-held AP state meet at Karimnagar on 26-27 Nov 2011. This is the highest number of gold medals ever secured by a swimmer in Andhra Pradesh.
And thanks to this achievement, she was awarded the Individual Championship trophy.
This 6th-grader displayed a natural flair for swimming since an early age, and has been a top performer at the state competitions for the past 2 years. She achieves her targets with long practice sessions, discipline and unstinting family support.
Amita has generally had an outstanding 2011 so far. Check out her triumphs below:
1. State-level (Karimnagar, Nov 2011): Individual Championship (6 Gold)
Won gold medals in all 4 forms of swimming - 50m Butterfly, 50m breast stroke, 50m & 100m Free Style, 50m Back Stroke and 200m Individual Medley. Now holds the Best Ever event record timings in all the 6 girls' group events in Andhra Pradesh.
2. National-level (Indore, MP, June 2011): 1 Bronze
Won the bronze in the 50m butterfly stroke, and was the only boy/girl from Andhra Pradesh to get a medal.
3. State-level (Hyderabad, AP, June 2011): Individual Championship (5 gold)
Set 5 new state records in 50m Butterfly, 50m & 100m Free Style, 50m Back Stroke and 200m Individual Medley.
4. South Zone (Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala, Feb 2011): 1 silver
Won the silver in the 50m Butterfly Stroke. Was the only boy/girl from Andhra Pradesh to get a medal.
What's next for Amita? She will represent AP in the South Zone competition that will be held at Bangalore on 26-28 December.
Expectations are riding high on her to put in a stellar performance, and to repeat her feat of bringing in the highest number of medals for Andhra Pradesh.
