BJP State President K Laxman on Sunday said that the union government would respond to the ongoing indefinite strike by RTC employees at the "right time".
Speaking to media persons, Laxman said that his party was sending reports to the Union government at regular intervals on the strike situation in the State. However, the Centre would not intervene in the issue as it was a State issue and any interference would be against the spirit of federalism and the Constitution.
He said that the Centre would intervene only if there was a law and order issue.
He also demanded that the State government immediately hold discussions with the RTC JAC leaders and concede their demands now that the main bone of contention, a demand for the merger of the TSRTC with the State government, had been taken off the table by the JAC.
He also condemned the arrest of leaders who held protest programs in support of the RTC employees, specifically referring to the arrest of MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga.
He also said that he would lead the Rasta Roko on November 19 in support of the strike.
