Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Yerrabelli Dayakar Rao on Wednesday said that the Rs. 400 crore relief package from the National Contingency Fund, which was announced by the centre on Tuesday, was 'too little, too late'.
Speaking to media persons outside the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Dayakar Rao said that the package announced by the centre as aid for the rain-hit farmers was too meagre to help the ryots who were in distress, and were resorting to committing suicide.
The TDP leader alleged that both the centre and the state governments were adopting a 'dual-policy' by announcing packages which were too meagre and insufficient to provide solace to the farmers.
Dayakar Rao added that the TDP, particularly its President N Chandrababu Naidu would not give up its struggle till the farmers in the state got justice. He added that Naidu would not withdraw his hunger strike till a concrete assurance on the issue did not come from the government.
The TDP leader pointed out that if the package announced by the government was adequate, the reports of farmers resorting to suicides would not have been coming in.
He also warned the government of serious consequences if anything adverse happened to Naidu.
