The opposition BRS MLAs today urged the Speaker of the State Assembly to disqualify their MLA Danam Nagender, who defected to the ruling Congress on Sunday.
A delegation comprising party MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, Mutha Ganga Gopal and Bandari Lakshma Reddy met the Assembly Speaker at the Old MLA Quarters in Hyderguda in the city and submitted a representation.
Speaking on the occasion, Kaushik Reddy said that they had met the Speaker on the instructions of their party president K Chandrashekar Rao.
"We have sought the disqualification of Danam Nagender. The Speaker has to take a decision respecting the Indian Constitution as per the anti-defection law. According to a Supreme Court verdict, Nagender should be disqualified within three months. It is not fair to win on one party's ticket and then shift to another party," he said.
Kaushik Reddy reminded the media of CM Revanth Reddy once saying that those who switched parties should be stoned, and added that the same Revanth Reddy had also once said that Danam Nagender had sold beedis in front of Gandhi Bhavan.
He said that they were ready hit back at the ruling Congress as a reaction to the defections being encouraged by the CM.
