The political turbulence over MLA defections in Telangana continues, with uncertainty looming over the cases of Kadiyam Srihari and Danam Nagender.
While the inquiry into eight BRS MLAs who "switched" to the ruling Congress has been completed, the fate of these two leaders remains uncertain.
The Assembly Speaker has directed both Srihari and Nagender to submit their responses in the form of affidavits by November 23. Srihari has already seeking an extension, and political circles believe Nagender may follow suit.
Srihari confirmed receiving the Speaker's notice and said that that his request for an extension had been considered positively. He said that he would submit his explanation within the extended deadline and abide by the Speaker's decision. "I am working with the Congress for the development of my constituency, Station Ghanpur. If bypolls are held, I will contest again with full confidence," he added.
Meanwhile Nagender had a surprise meeting with Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu today that triggered fresh speculation. After consulting AICC leaders and legal experts in Delhi on Friday, the Khairatabad MLA is reportedly exploring his options. Buzz within his camp indicates that he prefers resigning and contesting a bypoll over facing a prolonged disqualification probe. Sources say that he has sought assurance of a Congress ticket again if he resigns in the wake of the ongoing anti-defection proceedings.
