The BRS today launched a tirade against the Congress claiming that it was deceiving the people in the name of SC/ST declarations in Telangana, making false promises at the time of elections.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister for Tribal Welfare Satyavathi Rathod along with MP Malothu Kavitha and MLC M S Prabhakar said that the people belonging to the SCs and the STs were still backward in India because of the lopsided policies adopted by the Congress, and that it was ridiculous for the party to make fresh declarations for their development now.
The minister also asked the Congress why the promises in the declaration were not being implemented in the States already being ruled by the Congress, and challenged AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to declare the Telangana declaration across the country.
She said that the BRS government under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had taken various measures for the development of the STs, including converting 3,146 hamlets into Gram Panchayats, establishing Gurukul schools in each Assembly constituency and issuing the Podu Patta passbooks to 4 lakh people.
The minister also pointed out that the BRS government had passed a resolution in the State Assembly increasing the ST reservation in the State and sent it to the Centre for approval.
MP Malothu Kavitha too said that the Congress' SC/ST declaration would not be useful for the people, and was fit just for throwing it into a garbage bin.
