Hyderabad | 20th June 2024
Former advisor to the government K V Ramanachary today said that the condition of poor Brahmins in the State had become miserable.

He said that thousands of archaka families were reeling under poverty, and that their current situations brought tears to the eyes.

Speaking to media persons along with BRS leaders at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, he said that K Chandrashekar Rao, the first Chief Minister of Telangana, had helped the poor Brahmins in many ways during his tenure.

He said that KCR had formed the Brahmin Welfare Parishad in 2017 at a cost of Rs 100 crore. He also recalled that KCR had given honorariums to priests in temples, that funds were given to every temple as part of the Dhoopadeepa Naivedya scheme, that financial assistance was provided to elderly Vedic scholars, and that Brahmin students were given fellowships to study abroad.

He alleged that Brahmins had started suffering under the rule of the new government. Students depending on the Foreign Education Fund were a harried lot, he said, and demanded the release of Rs 30 crore to the fund.

"And Brahmin entrepreneurs are yet to be paid Rs 15 crore, and Brahmin Welfare Parishad employees have not been paid salaries for the last three months," he added, and demanded the immediate release of all dues. He asked the State government to take a decision at tomorrow's cabinet meeting on the issue.

BRS leader G Devi Prasad said that after Ramanachary became the Chairman of the Brahmin Welfare Parishad, justice had been done to many Brahmins, and many poor Brahmin students had gone abroad through the Parishad.

"The Congress said in its manifesto that it would double the funds for the Brahmin Welfare Parishad. However, currently the employees working in the Parishad are not even being paid salaries. The Brahmin students studying abroad are struggling to get their scholarships. The government's attitude towards poor Brahmins should be clarified and the government should release funds to the Brahmin Welfare Parishad," he added.
