Information and Public Relations and Tourism Minister J Geetha Reddy on Sunday stated that the government was planning to make Bonalu, the biggest event in the Telangana region after Bathukamma, a state festival.
Talking to reporters after performing a
special pooja at Ujjain Mahakali Temple in Secunderabad to mark the Bonalu Jatara, the minister said that K Rosaiah has responded favourably to the requests to accord Bonalu the status of a state festival.
She said that all people should celebrate Bonalu irrespective of their regional and political affiliations.
After some people complained that they were not given a chance to worship the Goddess, Geetha Reddy directed temple officials and police not to cause hindrance to anyone. Responding to her directions, temple and police authorities said that the huge rush of worshippers had led to some people not getting a chance to perform poojas, and denied that it was being done deliberately.
The temple authorities informed the minister that adequate security arrangements had been made for ensuring that the festival passes off in a peaceful manner.
