Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators were evicted from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council meeting for protesting against the Mayor's refusal to agree to the installation of freedom fighter Komaram Bheem's statue at Tank Bund.
The BJP corporators continued their protest outside the council hall where they staged a dharna for over 3 hours.
The BJP corporators had earlier in the day submitted a memorandum to the Mayor, urging her to receive the statue of the late leader from the government and ensure that it was installed at Tank Bund.
The government had stated on Wednesday that it was undecided on the appropriate place to install the freedom fighter's statue.
BJP Floor Leader Bangari Prakash pointed out to the Mayor that the bronze statue of Komaram Bheem had been made a year ago.
The Mayor refused to make any commitment on the issue and said that the decision to install the statue fell within the purview of the government and not the GHMC.
This remark prompted the BJP corporators to protest.
