The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday thanked the Hyderabad City Police for allowing the management of Bhagyalakshmi Temple to complete the shrine's renovation and decoration works.
Addressing a press conference at the party office in Nampally, BJP senior leader Bandaru Dattatreyya claimed that the tent and banner at the temple had existed on October 30, and that they were later removed by the police. He said that by allowing the renovation and decoration works, the had police restored the temple's position as it existed on October 30. He lauded the Hyderabad Police for implementing the High Court orders.
Dattetreyya said that the temple's management erects a tent and decorates the temple on the occasion of Diwali every year, and that the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen had raised an objection towards it for the first time ever, in order to gain political mileage.
Accusing the MIM of disturbing the peace and communal harmony in the city, he said that the police has shown "seriousness" in dealing with the situation by
arresting the MIM MLAs on Sunday.
The BJP leader said that it was wrong on the part of the MIM to get involved in a religious matter. He said that the issue should have been dealt with by a religious organisation. He added that it was a party corporator who had approached the High Court against the temple management.
Bandaru demanded that the state government take stringent measures to ensure peace in the city. He also questioned the silence of politicial parties, including TDP, YSR Congress and TRS, over the temple issue. (INN)
