Scores of students of the famous Basara IIIT today held a protest program by boycotting the food being served to them.
They warned the state government that they would not eat until their problems were solved.
The incharge VC of the institute Professor Venkata Ramana had reportedly invited the students for discussions, but skipped the meeting, angering the students further.
The students who came to hold the discussions with the VC then held a sit-in program in front of the VC's chamber.
Speaking on the occasion, the students said that the officials of the institute were testing their patience.
Separately, a parents' committee held a meeting in the city and decided to hold a Chalo Basara program in support of the students.
Meanwhile, the Incharge VC Venkata Ramana said that the campus authorities were making efforts to solve the problems of the students of the institute.
He said that the demands made by the students were justified, and that they had already solved some of the problems raised by the students, and that the other problems were at different stages of resolution.
He said that it was not good for the students to protest by starving themselves. He said that the institute had already released a notification for the appointment of new mess contractors, and that the process would be completed in a week.
