Tension prevailed on Tuesday at Sai Raja Theatre in Musheerabad, when hundreds of students, under the aegis of the All India Students Federation, staged a protest in front of the theatre, demanding ban on
The Dirty Picture.
Raising slogans, the students demanded that the theatre management stop the screening of the film since it contains "highly objectionable scenes".
Addressing the gathering, AISF general secretary Eswaraiah said that the "obscene scenes" in the film would "spoil" tender minds and their careers.
He also criticised the Censor Board for clearing the movie despite its objectionable scenes.
He demanded that the government initiate stringent action the Censor Board members for clearing The Dirty Picture.
Eswariah warned that the AISF would picket theatres if the government does not ban the film. Sensing trouble, the police came to the spot and took a few activists into custody.
The Dirty Picture is based on the life of yesteryear film star Silk Smitha, with the lead role having been played by Bollywood actress Vidya Balan. (INN)
