Baby With External Heart Dies

According to doctors, the abnormality should have been detected before the birth, in an ultrasound scan or some such test.
Hyderabad | 6th May 2010
The alarming case of the baby boy being born with an external heart has seen the death of the baby. Born to Firoji in Proddutur, the child's heart was found to have been placed outside his body. The heart was thus under severe stress, and local doctors advised that the baby be taken to a better-equipped hospital immediately.

The boy was then taken to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad, but doctors proclaimed the baby dead. According to doctors, the abnormality should have been detected before the birth, in an ultrasound scan or some such test - the life of the baby could then have been fought for immediately after its birth. The child was brought in too late for treatment, they said.

Chances of survival for such babies are reportedly very bleak - only 1 case so far has been successful.
