In a significant reformative step, the Ayurvedic Village at SICA, Chanchalguda, was inaugurated by Dr Soumya Mishra, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services.
The centre was reopened after a six-year hiatus.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mishra said that the Ayurvedic Village was a model initiative that combined affordable public healthcare with prisoner rehabilitation. "The facility will offer authentic Ayurvedic treatments and therapies at a nominal cost, making quality traditional healthcare accessible to the general public while strengthening the bond between prisons and society," she said.
She claimed that the initiative had strong rehabilitative value, as inmates would receive structured training in Ayurvedic therapies and wellness services, gaining certified practical skills to enhance their employability after release.
The centre, fully staffed with qualified Ayurvedic doctors and therapists, is expected to become a model for replication in other prisons across the State.
The event was attended by N Murali Babu, IG Prisons; Dr D Srinivas, DIG, Hyderabad Range; M Sampath, DIG, Warangal Range; N Shiva Kumar Goud, Superintendent, CP Hyderabad; Dr Y B Ramesh and Dr M Gowtham, Ayurveda physicians; S Srinivasa Reddy, Principal, SICA; and other senior officers and staff members.
