With the water level of the Godavari river rising above the danger mark at Bhadrachalam, the State government has sought the help of the Indian Army to speed up the rehabilitation process in the flood-affected Bhadradri district.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar spoke with the Army officials and requested them to extend their assistance. The Army officials promptly responded to the request of the State government and deputed a team of 101 members comprising 68 from the infantry, 10 medical professionals and 23 engineers, who left for the flood-ravaged district.
The above troops will be capable of operating as five independent teams.
The tourism department too dispatched four special boats along with men to the district to assist in rescue and relief operations. And the fire department dispatched seven boats along with 210 life jackets and life bouys.
The State government has also deputed senior officer and MD of Singareni Colleries N Sridhar as a special officer to monitor the relief operations in the district. The infrastructure available with the Singareni Colleries will be pressed into service at Bhadrachalam for flood relief operations.
The Chief Secretary today reviewed the flood situation and asked the officials to ensure that there was no loss of life due to the floods. He is reported to be monitoring the situation on an hourly basis.
