APSRTC vice-chairman and managing director A K Khan, on Monday, warned the corporation's employees of stern action if they indulge in drunken driving. He said that those who drive vehicles in an inebriated condition would not be spared, and that appropriate action would be initiated against them to ensure the safety of the commuters.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the "Safety Week" program at the RTC bus depot at Ranigunj, Khan advised the RTC drivers to ensure their good health and to take rest, along with performing their professional duties.
He also advised drivers to perform double duties only during emergencies, as additional work and sleeplessness would severely affect their health.
Khan said that employees should also attend to their social needs, in addition to their profession.
Khan asserted that maintenance of the buses is also necessary for a safe journey. He also warned that disciplinary action would be taken against mechanical staff if busses are not maintained well.
Transport commissioner Sanjay Kumar said that Andhra Pradesh ranks the highest in the country in the number of accidents involving public transport buses. He stressed the need to control the number of accidents in the state, and said that the Safety Week program would play a big role in spreading awareness among the RTC employees. He also said there is a need for similar programs for private operators.
RTC executive director A Koteshwar Rao also spoke on this occasion. (INN)
