Osmania University is throbbing with cheers of hundreds of Telangana supporters, but the rest of the state is in turmoil, throwing the state government into an unprecedented crisis.
According to the Assembly speaker, 93 MLAs (Congress-53, TDP-29, PRP-11) have submitted in their resignations today, following the Centre’s decision to let a resolution in favour of a separate state be moved in the state Assembly. The mayor of Vijayawada and several sarpanches have resigned in protest. Rosaiah’s government is under threat now, even as KCR gets ready to lead a Victory Rally tomorrow.
The backlash is hardly confined to the political theatre. There are unruly mobs across Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, and strikes being planned for tomorrow.
Sonia Gandhi will shortly meet with Congress MLAs and MPs to discuss the issue.
