The MPs from the Seemandhra regions and their counterparts from Telangana on Friday hardened their respective stands. While the Telangana MPs continued to maintain that nothing short of a separate state would be accepted, the Seemandhra MPs claimed that the people were opposed to the bifurcation of the state.
The Seemandhra MPs told the Congress In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad that the state will progress both on the industrial and the agricultural front if it remains integrated.
Except Eluru MP Kavuri Sambhasiva Rao, all other MPs including the Union Minister for State for Human Resources Development, Daggubati Purandareswari, Lagadapati Rajagopal and T Subbarami Reddy attended the meeting.
Earlier, Lagadapati Rajagopal had submitted a 20-page report to Azad, stating that the Congress would suffer serious damage in the local body elections in the event of the formation of Telangana.
In his report, Rajagopal reportedly said that the newly launched YSR Congress Party of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would seriously dent the chances of the Congress party if elections were to be held in the near future.
T Subbarami Reddy urged the Centre to take a decision on the issue without hurting the sentiments of the people in any of the 3 regions.
Earlier, the Telangana MPs met Azad and issued a deadline of June 1st to the Centre for making a clear announcement on the formation of Telangana.
After the 2 separate meetings, Azad is believed to be toying with the idea of convening a joint meeting of all the MPs of the state.
