The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to distribute two LED bulbs per household to one crore households in the State aggregating to about two crore bulbs in the domestic sector.
This project is poised to be the biggest ever such Demand Side Management (DSM) based project in the domestic sector in the whole world.
This is ultimately expected to save 500 MW of electricity, in addition to the savings in the electricity bills of the end consumers.
The distribution of LED bulbs has already been launched in the Guntur district, where 12.5 lakh bulbs have already been distributed so far. Efforts are underway to roll out the project to all the districts of AP, and to complete it by the end of financial year 2015-16.
As part of achieving this objective, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that 2015 may be considered as the Year of Energy Conservation in the State.
The Chief Minister, in an open letter to the general public, appealed to them to come forward voluntarily and participate in the energy conservation movement taken up by the State government, for achieving the objectives of 24x7 power supply, energy security, environmental protection, benefits to posterity etc.
He stressed the need for implementation of Energy Conservation and Efficiency measures in all major sectors including domestic, industrial, local bodies, water supply, agriculture and industrial.
He said that the significance of energy conservation needed to be inculcated from childhood itself, and towards achieving this goal, topics on energy conservation had been included in the school syllabus, too. (INN)
