Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday announced that the Central Govenment would soon bring in some amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Addressing a press conference, the Union Minister said that there were several clauses in the Act that needed to be amended immediately, since the existing provisions would create problems for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He alleged that the Act was drafted and passed by the then UPA Government in a haste, and that the BJP needed to support the move to ensure the early formation of Telangana. However, he said that the present BJP-led NDA Government would bring in the required amendments to the Act to make it more sensible.
The Union Minister said that the Chief Ministers of the two States - K Chandrashekar Rao (Telangana) and N Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh) - and other elected representatives would be consulted before amendments were made to the Act.
Venkaiah Naidu also appreciated the TRS Government for showing an inclination to maintain a friendly relationship with the Centre.
He also dismissed reports that the Centre was being influenced to stop development in Telangana. He said that the Centre would support all the States equally irrespective of the Party in power. However, he said that the BJP Government would try to play a role in softening the differences between the TDP and the TRS.
The Union Minister also claimed that the country was moving on the path of growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Stating that India was moving towards "Achche Din" (good days), he accused the Opposition Parties of creating unnecessary obstacles. (INN)
