The Telugu Desam Party government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to take up the issue of Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014 (which gives powers over law and order in Hyderabad to the Governor during the period for which Hyderabad is the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) with President Pranab Mukherjee at Bolaram on Monday.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, AP minister Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy said that the AP government would appeal to the President on the need for invoking Section 8 in Hyderabad.
"There are several issues that compel us to demand the invocation of Section 8. We will not relent on the issue, and will make a strong pitch with the President on the need to enforce this section," he remarked.
Accusing the Telangana government of creating problems for the AP government, Bojjala said that there was a need for resolving the issues related to the A P Reorganisation Act by sitting across the table.
He also alleged that the Leader of the Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was adopting dual standards on the Pattiseema project, and that he should make his stance clear.
Jagan, while seeking waters for Rayalaseema through the project, was deploring the very same project when it came to the Andhra region, saing that it would destroy the Godavari region, he charged.
It is widely assumed that the AP government's push for Section 8 is a bid to corner the ruling party in Telangana which has AP CM Chandrababu Naidu in a corner over the nite-for-vote case. (NSS)
