Representatives of the Federation of Brahmin Associations have requested the Lok Satta Party's national president Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan to give due representation to Brahmins during the selection of candidates for contesting the upcoming general elections.
The representatives, led by federation convener Dornala Krishna Murthy, pointed out that Brahmins who have contributed to good governance with their talent and erudition for centuries have lost their importance these days for various reasons.
Since there cannot be genuine democracy without Brahmins' participation in the political system, theys should be given fair representation for contesting elections, the members of the Federation of Brahmin Associations opined.
Responding to their request about being granted party tickets to contest for MLA and MP seats, Dr. JP said that the Lok Satta has always been committed to the growth of all sections, and that party tickets could not just be doled out casually.
Dr. JP further said that the party will provide due representation to all committed and competent leaders.
Lok Satta Party leaders Bandaru Ramamohan Rao and Mrs. Gita Murthy also took part in the meeting at the party headquarters. (INN)
