Andhra Pradesh MP Rammohan Naidu, at the third day of the ongoing winter session of Parliament, demanded legal sanctity for the special package promised by the Centre to the State for covering post-bifurcation losses.
Addressing the Speaker, the MP recalled the monsoon session of Parliament when Union Minister Arun Jaitley, on behalf of the NDA-led government, had completely reneged on the promise made by the Centre of according Special Status to AP under the Reorganisation Act of 2014, and said that two and a half months after declaring a special package for the State's development, the declaration remained in spirit and paper but not in action. He expressed concerns that the special package, much like Special Status, would remain an unfulfilled promise.
Keeping these concerns as the center of his argument, Naidu asked for the provision of legal sanctity, which is basically a legal protection undersigned by the Central government stating that the facilities of the package will be delivered on a specified date, violating which, the beneficiary can approach the court.
