Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member Sitaram Yechury on Sunday expressed solidarity with Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been on an indefinite
fast since the past 3 days pressing for a revised relief package for rain-hit farmers.
Talking to media persons, the CPI(M) leader blamed the state government for not responding to Naidu's fast, and demanded that the government announce a minimum support price for procuring discolored paddy.
He demanded that the government announce a special package for rain-hit farmers and help them economically and give them moral support to start Rabi operations.
Yechury said the state government was in a dilemma regarding the release of a meager amount of Rs. 10,000 per acre for rain-hit farmers whereas at the centre the 2G spectrum scam has caused the exchequer a loss of Rs. 1.76 lakh crores.
The CPM leader alleged that the UPA government had hatched a conspiracy to split like-minded parties who want to launch a united fight against the government on anti-people issues.
He called upon the left party rank and file to join Naidu's agitation and extend full support and cooperation to farmers who are reeling under hardships across the country.
Yechury said his party would enter into an alliance with like-minded parties, except for the Congress and the BJP, to fight against anti-people policies, corruption and for providing food security.
