IAS Officials Meet CM Over Arrests

IAS officials protest against the arrest of their colleagues by the CBI in various scams in the state.
Hyderabad | 4th February 2012
Officials of the Indian Administrative Services, on Friday, registered protest against the arrest of IAS officials by the Central Bureau Of Investigation in various scams in the state.

Nearly 70 serving IAS officials met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office at Begumpet, on Friday evening.

They complained that they were being made scapegoats in the said cases.

They contended that all major decisions are taken by the state Cabinet, and that IAS officials simply implement them. Therefore, it was wrong on the part of the probing agencies to hold IAS officials responsible for any wrong-doings, they maintained.

Talking to media persons after meeting the Chief Minister, IAS Officers Association representative Prashant Mahapatra said that the CBI should have enquired about the powers and limitations that the IAS officials enjoy in taking major decisions.

He accused the CBI of having arrested the IAS officials without doing its homework, stating that these officials had discharged their duties as per law.

"We need to provide an appropriate environment so that officers can work fearlessly, without swords hanging on their heads," he said.

Speaking about the meeting, Mahapatra said that the IAS officials had spoken about generic issues, and had discussed ways to build a healthy government.

He said that the Chief Minister assured them that he would look into the matter and take effective measures to ensure that IAS officials work without any fear.

Earlier, about 20 senior IAS officials had held a meeting to finalise the agenda for meeting with the Chief Minister. Sources say that the IAS officials will again meet on 5 February to discuss the future course of action. (INN)

When junior doctor, important members of welfare of people are on rampage for the benefit of the people at large why no IAS supported them. Why politicians should be on bee line. Is it not the IAS encouraged/instigated such a movement and responsible for derailment of the hospital industry under the Govt. control? These babus cannot be allowed. Why no IAS was booked by CBI for corrupt activity all along? Can CBI or anybody give a certificate that all these people who took oath to serve society are impratial in their approach and decision making
