Hyderabad | 31st December 2011
Though there is an increase in the IT sector export turnover of Andhra Pradesh, the percentage, in comparision to the national figure, has come down during the year.
The turnover went up to Rs. 35,023 crores from Rs. 33,482 crores the previous year, but the percentage in comparision to the national figures has come down from 14.4% to 13.9%.
This can be attributed to the fact that the national growth was higher than that of the state.
The Minister for IT and Communications, who released the data, said that 8 companies, including Deloitte Consulting India Private Limited, have shown interest in the state.
However, the IT sector continues to dominate in the state, in comparision with the other sectors.
The decline in the IT export turnover has been constant from its peak of 51.29% in 2005-06. During the previous year, it was at 45.77%, and it went down to 38.22% this year.
Among the major units to set up shop in the state this year, a few are Polycom Technology, Foundation 9 Entertainment, TIBCO, Covi8den and DSM.
The state also has IBM, DELL, Oracle, Google, Microsoft, UBS and other international players. (INN)
