The Election Commission of India is taking all sorts of precautions in order to conduct the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state in a free and fair manner.
Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal announced that as many as 911 flying squad units have been constituted while 899 check posts have been set up for the polls.
A total of 1142 "Model of Conduct" informants have been nominated across the state. So far, the authorities have seized Rs. 37.54 crores in cash, 19.79 kgs of gold, and 6500 litres of ID liquor, all of which were being used for election campaigning (but which are against the law).
A total of 2,546 licensed arms have also been deposited. Of the 7,239 non-bailable Warrants, which were pending at the time of the announcement of elections, 1054 have been executed while 6,184 are still pending.
As of today, there are 6,29,99,756 voters in the state - a number which includes 3,12,98,931 women and 46,110 service electors.
Nearly 9.15 lakhs fresh applications for the inclusion of names in the electoral list have been received. He said that 69,014 polling stations will be set up across the state for the polling.
Bhanwarlal also announced that the candidates who had been disqualified earlier by the Election Commission of India will not be eligible to contest the ensuing elections. (INN)
