Putting an end to the long-standing controversy, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to hold EAMCET for its students separately.
The decision was taken during the AP cabinet meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at the State Secretariat.
The Councils for Higher Education of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been at loggerheads over the conduct of a joint EAMCET for the students of both the states. The Telangana's CHE was not willing to buy Andhra Pradesh's contention that it held the right to conduct joint EAMCET exams for the students of both the states as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
On December 29, the APSCHE had announced the conduct of the Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) for both the states on May 10. But the TSCHE immediately announced that it would conduct EAMCET for Telangana students on May 14.
Even Governor E S L Narasimhan intervened and tried to convince the States to find an amicable solution to the controversy to ensure that the students did not suffer.
The decision of AP's cabinet has resolved one of the most contentious issues between the two Telugu-speaking states. (INN)
