TPCC chief and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy today sought the intervention of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the issue of his house arrest by the Hyderabad police.
This plea came after the MP was placed under house arrest this morning, reportedly to prevent him from visiting the
recently auctioned government lands in Kokapet for a protest.
Following the detainment, he alleged that the police had kept him under house arrest despite the fact that the Monsoon Session of Parliament was currently underway in the national capital and that this had forced him to miss the ongoing deliberations and had kept him from raising various problems being faced by the people of Telangana in Parliament.
Reddy claimed that the police had taken away his fundamental right to exercise freedom in the midst of the ongoing Monsoon session and urged the latter to exercise his special discretionary powers to ensure that he (Reddy) could attend the session without any further problems.
Refuting the allegations, Banjara Hills ACP M Sudarshan said that the police had in fact not prevented the TPCC chief from participating in the Monsoon session and had only gone to his residence to inform him that he was not allowed to visit the auctioned lands in Kokapet to protest.
However, many senior party leaders, including Mallu Ravi, have maintained that the real intention of detaining Reddy is actually to prevent him from attending the session.
