Krishna's Waters Shared By 3 States

The Krishna Tribunal alloted 1001 TMCs to AP, 911 TMCs to Karnataka and 666 TMCs to Maharashtra. Almatti Dam will be raised to 524.265 meters.
Hyderabad | 30th December 2010
The Krishna Tribunal has given its verdict on the sharing of Krishna's waters. The verdict allows Andhra Pradesh to use 1,001 TMCs of water, while Karnataka and Maharashtra are to use 911 and 666 TMCs respectively.

Chennai's potable water demands are to be met by AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra equally, the Krishna Tribunal ruled. During the months of Januay, February and March, each of the states will release 7 TMCs of water to Chennai, and during the months of July, August, September and October, 3.3 TMCs of water will be released by each state, the verdict states.

To Karnataka's delight, the Krishna Tribunal has allowed the Almatti Dam's height to be increased from 519 meters to 524.265 meters, much to the alarm of AP.

The Tribunal has ordered Karnataka to release 8-9 TMCs of water to AP, during the Kharif season.
