Sack Chavan: Ex Army Officers

The AP State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association staged a protest at Basheer Bagh crossroads, and burnt Chavan's effigy.
Hyderabad | 4th November 2010
The Andhra Pradesh State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association on Thursday demanded the sacking of Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan for his alleged involvement in the allotment of flats in Adarsh Housing Society reserved for the families of Kargil war heroes.

The former army officers, under the leadership of association president A Rangaiah Goud, staged a protest at Basheer Bagh crossroads by burning Chavan's effigy.

They demanded that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and prime minister Manmohan Singh direct the police to register a criminal case against Ashok Chavan for his alleged role in the allotment of flats to his relatives illegally. They also demanded that Chavan be immediately arrested.

The former army officers urged the government to allot the flats to the families of those who were killed in the Kargil war and hence render justice to the martyrs' souls.

They also demanded that the state government construct houses for the families of Kargil martyrs in the state, on the lines of Maharashtra.

The former army officers appealed to the chief minister to take up welfare measures for ex-armymen, and to utilize their services wherever necessary.

Also, they demanded action against cine producers for depicting army persons in a poor manner.
