8 Passengers Killed In Vizianagaram In Train Accident
Passengers of the Bokaro Express, stationed at Gajularega, jumped out seeing smoke come out of bogies of their train, and got crushed by an oncoming train.
At least 8 passengers were feared killed and several others injured when they were run over by another train after they jumped off their own train onto an adjacent track, at Gotlam village, about 10km from Vizianagaram, here on Saturday evening.
The tragic accident occurred when passengers travelling in the Bokaro-bound Alleppey-Dhanbad Bokaro Express, stationed at Gajularega, started getting down from the stationary train and jumped on to an adjacent track upon noticing that smoke was coming out from the S1 and S2 bogies of their train.
However, they were hit by the speeding Rayagada-Vijayawada passenger train which was hurtling down the adjacent track.
Those killed include women and children. Since many dead bodies lay mangled on the rail track, it is feared that the number of casualties may go up.
The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Senior officials have rushed to the spot along with relief teams.
PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, who hails from Vizianagaram district, spoke to higher officials over the phone and asked them to provide necessary help to the injured and the families of those killed in the accident. (INN)
