Hyderabad police on Tuesday revealed that they had apprehended a 4-member gang who were trying to sell 4 country-made guns.
According to police, the 4 accused, Yaseen, Arshadullah, Lateef Khan and Imran Khan, were in illegal possession of country-made weapons of 8mm caliber.
Briefing media persons, Police Commissioner A K Khan stated that the gang was nabbed when the inspector of police, Saidabad police station, along with staff, were conducting vehicle checking and frisking at Laxminagar crossroads.
The police team stopped 2 youngsters when they attempted to avoid the frisking. The youngsters were thoroughly frisked and it revealed 1 country-made gun (Tapancha) and one .8mm live round from the bike-rider, later identified as Yaseen. The youngster riding pillion was identified as Arshadullah.
The duo revealed the presence of the other 2 accused and subsequent raids led police to unearth the other 3 country-made guns from their possession.
According to police, Yaseen has a past history of criminal activity.
Yaseen is an ex-convict of Kanchanbagh Police station. He has been involved in 5 criminal cases so far. Among them, 3 were house burglaries and 1 was auto mobile theft. He was convicted twice in house burglary offences and had undergone imprisonment for 18 months. He was also involved in one murder case of LB Nagar police station (2008).
Yaseen had come to know about arms being freely available in Bihar while in jail, and had taken Arshad there and procured the firearms.
A case in crime no. 365/2010 U/S 25(1) (a) Arms Act has been registered, and the 4 accused persons, the weapons and live rounds seized by the Saidabad Police are being produced before the Court. Further investigation is in progress.
