Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath on Thursday informed the State Legislative Assembly that orders have been issued to all the private and corporate schools to implement 25 per cent reservations to students from the weaker sections of society.
Replying to a question raised by MLA K Ramabhupal Reddy and others during Question Hour, the minister said that the government issued the GO Ms No 44, School Education (PE-Prog-1) Department, dated 30.07.2010 reserving 25% of the seats for the disadvantaged and for those from the weaker sections of society for admission to Class-I in private unaided schools. He said that the orders were suspended by the High Court in WP No 20891/2010. However, the government has framed rules under RTE providing for 25% reservation in private unaided schools and notified in Gazette No 10, dated 05.03.2011.
The minister admitted that several schools were not implementing the quota as detailed modalities were under consideration. (INN)
