The Cyberabad traffic police conducted a special drunk driving check over the weekend, resulting in the arrest of 238 offenders.
A total of 187 two-wheelers, 45 four-wheelers, four three-wheelers and two heavy vehicles were seized during the operation.
Of the offenders, 220 were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Thirteen individuals had BAC levels between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while five were caught with levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml.
All offenders will be produced in court.
Authorities have issued a stern warning that anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol and causing fatal accidents would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years' imprisonment along with a fine.
