The former Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, who was sacked from his post by the AP government through an ordinance last month that reduced his term to 3 years from 5 years, today said that he was resuming his post following an order of the High Court of the state.
Ramesh Kumar had been indirectly sacked from the post by the state government after he postponed the local body elections in the state scheduled for March 2020 due to the threat of the coronavirus, by reducing his term.
Speaking to media persons after the judgment of the court, Kumar said that he would restart the local body election process once everything got stabilized in the state.
He said that he would continue to work in an impartial manner just as he had in the past.
He added that he would soon hold a meeting with the representatives of all political parties on the conduct of the elections.
Kumar also said that individuals were not permanent, but that the constitutional bodies and their values would be.
Kumar was appointed as the State Election Commissioner on January 30, 2016, by the then Governor of the state E S L Narasimhan, for a period of five years. He took charge on April 1, 2016, and his term is set to expire in March 2021.
