Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao instructed his officials to go beyond budget allocations and spend extra funds for the welfare of SCs and STs in the State.
Speaking during a review meeting on the SC/ST sub-plan scheme, the Chief Minister said that the officers ought to focus more on the SCs and STs who were really economically backward and not on those who weren't.
However he cautioned that spending extra funds alone wouldn't help if the sub-plan's implementation wasn't efficient and transparent enough. He said that SCs and STs needed confidence in their government. Unless they weren't periodically informed about the funds allocated and spent, these sections would doubt the government's sincerity, the KCR said.
"Most SCs and STs belong to the lower strata of the society and shall be given all necessary help. The administrators shall review the implementation of the sub-plan on a monthly basis. The Ministers shall conduct the meetings to discuss the progress report every once in three months, and I will review the same once in six months. The TRS government is spending beyond budget allocations for the sub-plan, and the trend would continue."
"Our government has started residential schools for these backward classes by being fluid with the amount of funds needed. But the situation in other hostels need change. They need better facilities including high-end toilets and rooms. Imparting quality and high standard education will pave way for a better future for the younger generations of the SC/ST community," he said.
He added that the officials should give overseas scholarships to all meritorious SC and ST applicants, and should not put any limit on the amount.
